Our mission is to integrate Nature back into cities in a way that efficiently promotes profitability, health, sustainability and beauty.
Based in the iconic Brooklyn Navy Yard, our team brings decades of leadership experience in finance, engineering, design, and construction. We have dedicated teams for financing, consulting, system design, plant selection, manufacturing, installation and maintenance. They are each led by highly qualified specialists in their respective fields.
Our team has installed hundreds of thousands of square feet of green building projects throughout the greater northeast over the past 10+ years, on buildings including iconic landmarks, schools, offices, restaurants, condos, and brownstones.

Alan Burchell, Principal
Since launching Urbanstrong in 2014, Alan has provided training on rooftop development strategies for NYC architects, spoken at the United Nations and numerous conferences, appeared on MSNBC, consulted for corporations, nonprofits and municipal governments, and provided expert testimony in court and city council hearings. Outside of work, Alan can usually be found camping deep in the woods decked out in full Indiana Jones cosplay air-guitaring to Nirvana b-sides hoping nobody takes this literally.
Sage Daughton, Resilient Buildings & Energy Consultant
Before joining Urbanstrong, Sage helped administer and implement Con Edison's energy efficiency incentive programs across the Northeast. She has extensive experience guiding commercial building owners, co-op and condo boards, and property managers through the complex landscape of rebates, financing programs, and strategic upgrades.
Zada Hathaway, Lead Green Wall Design-Build-Install and Maintenance Specialist
Prior to Urbanstrong, Zada previously worked in the horticulture industry in San Francisco teaching large classes and events on plant science, care, and design; building moss walls; and fabrication work. Zada uses this past botanical experience to understand the needs of our walls in their ongoing care and ensuring the plants can continue to thrive.
Zada is happiest when creating things with her hands both at work and at home and enjoys knitting, biking, and watching her pet rats get into mischief. Her favorite plant genera to collect are hoyas, rhipsalis, and carnivourous plants, especially drosera, pinguicula, and utricularia.
