Irrigated Living Moss Wall - Louisburg Square, Beacon Hill, Boston
Unlike 99% of moss wall installations, which are comprised of preserved moss, this installation uses living, breathing moss. As a living organism, this moss has a dynamic, always changing aesthetic, slowly growing and changing color as it progresses through its lifecycle. That means it also needs to be kept damp. Drip irrigation tubing on the back of the panels provides moisture from behind. And overhead emitters periodically send a misty fog down the face of the moss wall. The entire system has a mahogany frame surround and a custom copper drip pan along the bottom.
Installed just in time for the 2018 annual tour of the Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill, this installation was an absolute showstopper.
